ILCC fund for empirical projects

The Institute for Language, Cognition, and Computation is offering 10 small awards to students whose projects will involve human experimental participants.

Who is eligible? Any student undertaking an MInf, UG4, or MSc project with a primary supervisor in ILCC.

How much money can I get? These awards will be for up to £200 each.

How can I use the funds? You can use the funds for reimbursing experimental participants and paying associated fees, e.g., to crowdsourcing platforms. All reimbursements must adhere to University policies; your supervisor should be able to provide details about how participants can be reimbursed.

How do I apply? Our application form is here. It includes some questions about your research question(s), experimental design, and analysis plan; we encourage you to consider these carefully before submitting the form.

How will you decide what projects get funds? If possible, we will award funds to all projects that have a clear scientific or technical aim and make it clear that the funds will be used effectively toward that aim. If we receive more suitable applications than we have funds, we will rank applications based on the clarity, detail, and feasibility of their data collection and analysis plans.

When is the application deadline? We will begin considering applications on 1 June, and thereafter on a rolling basis until all awards are allocated, or 14 July at the latest.
