Applications Funding has now completely ended for CDT studentships as the CDT in NLP programme has now reached its maximum capacity of five cohorts of students (2019-2023). However, the Centre for Doctoral Training in Designing Responsible NLP took on its first cohort in September 2024 - please see here for more details and how to apply: https://www.responsiblenlp.org/ For other possible alternative PGR options - please visit Institute for Language, Cognition and Computation Studentships Approximately a dozen fully-funded studentships were available each year, covering both maintenance at the research council stipend rate (*£18,622 for A/Y: 2023-24) and tuition fees. The programme commenced each September and required all students to be based in Edinburgh to optimise the cohort benefit. Applicants who applied to this programme were automatically considered for scholarship opportunities as part of the selection process; there was no separate scholarship application required. Studentships, although limited, were available for all nationalities. A wide range of research topics fell within the remit of the CDT: Natural language processing and computational linguistics Speech technology Dialogue, multimodal interaction, language and vision Information retrieval and visualization, computational social science Computational models of human cognition and behavior, including language and speech processing Human-Computer interaction, design informatics, assistive and educational technology Psycholinguistics, language acquisition, language evolution, language variation and change Linguistic foundations of language and speech processing. Entry Requirements Applicants were required to have an undergraduate or master's degree in computer science, linguistics, cognitive science, AI or a related discipline; or a breadth of relevant experience in industry/academia/public sector, etc. Applicants were required to satisfy the programme requirements as indicated in the Degree Finder as well as the University's English language requirements.
