TH10: Standards for Learning

Speaker: Stuart Anderson

Standards for Learning

" Our students know nothing about standards.   Our library gives us access to a huge resource in the BSI online site:https://bsol-bsigroup-com.eux.idm.oclc.org/ where we can access a huge range of ISO, IEC, CEN/CENELEC and BSI standards.  This is a potentially important resource for student learning (e.g. the 11 sections of the software testing standard ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119 capture a huge range of issues relating to testing).  Standards capture engineering practice and so could influence our approach to software engineering learning.  However, standards have much wider potential to contribute to issues like ethics, responsible research and professional practice.  They also can contribute to characterising the wide range contexts impacted by digital transformation.  The talk will introduce standards and explore how we might use standards as part of student learning."
