Title: Insect-inspired robotics: what next?

Abstract: Many desired capabilities for robots - from robust on-board navigation to dextrous manipulation - seem to be efficiently executed by insects. I will give an overview and perspective, based on my own and others work, of how inspiration from insects has been recently applied in robotics; what might be promising directions for future work; and discuss whether this approach still has relevance in the era of foundation models.
