30 November 2020 - Serge Vaudenay Speaker Serge Vaudenay Title SwissCovid Status (with a note of caution for related systems) Abstract SwissCovid is the Swiss COVID-19 app for contact tracing. It is based on the Apple-Google Exposure Notification (like the NHS COVID-19 app). It has been up since June 25. Since then, we have learned how it works in real. In this presentation, we will review the legal basis, the security and privacy issues, the reliability of Bluetooth, and the performance of SwissCovid according to surveys. We will notably present an attack by which we can inject a false alert on a smartphone using NHS COVID-19 with a low-cost equipment. Bio Serge Vaudenay entered at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in 1989 with a major in mathematics. He earned his agrégation (secondary teaching degree) in mathematics in 1992, then a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Paris 7 - Denis Diderot in 1995. He subsequently became a senior research fellow at the CNRS, prior to being granted his habilitation à diriger des recherches (a postdoctoral degree authorizing the recipient to supervise doctoral students). In 1999, he was appointed as a Professor at the EPFL, where he created the Security and Cryptography Laboratory.
