Amos Storkey
CDT Director

Professor Amos Storkey is a Personal Chair of Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh, and leads the Bayesian and Neural Systems Group. Strong of his previous CDT Director experience on two EPSRC-funded CDTs (Data Science and Pervasive Parallelism), Amos has extensive grant management, PhD training and student support experience. He is the Director of the CDT MLSystems.

Michael O'Boyle
CDT Director of Partnership

Professor Mike O'Boyle is Personal Chair in Computer Science at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh, Director of ARM Research Centre of Excellence and an EPSRC Established Career Fellow. Former director of the CDT in Pervasive Parallelism, he also has extensive experience in grant management and CDT leadership. He co-directs the CDT MLSystems with the particular task of looking after its partnerships, working jointly with the Business Development Executive to maintain links and identify further links.

Elizabeth Polgreen
Deputy Director Training

I am a Reader (~Associate Professor in US terminology) in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh. I am interested in (formal and machine learning-based) synthesis techniques and the use of synthesis to increase the scalability of verification. I hold a research fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering. Previously, I was a postdoctoral research scholar in Professor Sanjit Seshia's group at the University of California, Berkeley. I completed my PhD at the University of Oxford, supervised by Professor Alessandro Abate.

Adriana Sejfia
Deputy Director Training

I am an Assistant Professor (Lecturer, in the UK system) at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh. Within the School, I am a member of the Institute for Computing Systems Architecture (ICSA). Previously, I completed my PhD in Computer Science at the University of Southern California, where I was advised by Professor Nenad Medvidović, at the Software Architecture Research Group. During my PhD, my research was generously supported by the Google PhD Fellowship. My research interests lie primarily in the field of software engineering.

Antonio Vergari
Deputy Director Recruitment and Student Support

I do research in AI and ML to enable and support decision making in the real-world. This is why you can find me doing research on efficient inference with guarantees, complex probabilistic queries, and automating probabilistic ML! I am the PI of the APRIL lab (Adaptive Programs Requiring Interactive Learning). APRIL is a research lab focused on investigating probabilistic models and programs that are reliable and efficient. The lab is based at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh within the Institute for Machine Learning (IML).

Luo Mai
Deputy Director Research Support

I am an Associate Professor, equivalent to Reader in the UK system, in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, where I lead the Large-Scale Machine Learning Systems Group. I also co-lead the UK EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Machine Learning Systems and a UK ARIA project on scaling AI compute. Before joining Edinburgh, I was a postdoctoral Research Associate at Imperial College London, where I worked with Peter Pietzuch, and a Visiting Researcher at Microsoft Research. I received my PhD under the supervision of Paolo Costa and Alexander L. Wolf, supported by a Google Fellowship in Cloud Computing. My research focuses on machine learning systems across the full stack, from models and data to runtimes, systems software, and emerging AI hardware.

Ajitha Rajan
Systems Advisor

I am a Professor (Personal Chair of Software Testing and Verification) and Director of Research at the School of Informatics in the University of Edinburgh. My background includes postdoctoral positions at Oxford University and Laboratoire d'Informatique de Grenoble. I completed my PhD in Computer Science at the University of Minnesota (Aug 2009) under Prof. Mats Heimdahl. My research focuses on two main directions: Automated Software Testing and Biomedical AI.

Henry Gouk
ML Advisor

I'm a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Machine Learning at the School of Informatics within the University of Edinburgh, where I co-lead the Bayesian and Neural Systems group. I also hold a Research Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering. Prior to this, I was a postdoctoral researcher working with Prof Timothy Hospedales at the University of Edinburgh, and before that I completed my PhD at the University of Waikato under Prof Bernhard Pfahringer and Prof Eibe Frank.
