Why did you choose to study in Edinburgh?

The University of Edinburgh is a highly influential institution in Computer Science and Science. The historical impact of Edinburgh Alumni such as Donald Michie (one of the men who helped crack the enigma code in WWII) and Charles Darwin is testament to its high-standard education. The degree structure within the School of Informatics is highly flexible and allows for a vast range of topics to be studied which weren't covered in other Universities and in honours-years you can fully customise what you want to focus on. As a Widening participation student , Edinburgh provided the strongest frame of financial support through the Access Edinburgh Scholarship which would help fund my studies.

Why did you choose to study Informatics?

I'm not going to say I was set on Informatics from the first day I ever thought about Higher Education. Initially I wanted to attend Art School or do something within humanities as I had really enjoyed Art and History throughout high school. However, I have always had a fascination in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics and had already developed some basic programming projects by the time I received my offer. Moreover, with Computing and Artificial Intelligence covering basically everything we do in the modern world, gaining a deep understanding on computer systems leaves me with strong career prospects for after graduation.

What do you do for fun?

When I am not in the library doing programming coursework, I am probably in my room playing videogames, watching, or enjoying the Edinburgh nightlife. Would highly recommend Big Cheese, the student associations nightclub.

Any tips for prospective students?

Get involved in Offer Holder group chats as they are an amazing way of getting to know other students before coming to Edinburgh and can relieve a lot of stress and anxiety surrounding the move to University, especially if it is a new city. I have met my closest friends from Offer holder group chats.
