19 November 2018: Petros Papapanagiotou DigiFlow is an Industry 4.0 project for the digitization, monitoring, and optimization of industrial workflows. It offers a unique combination of IoT, Cloud, and workflow technologies to provide manufacturing companies better monitoring of their floors and decision support that optimizes efficiency. Using our own WorkflowFM framework, we model the flows that production lots need to follow on the manufacturing floor. Combined with real-time location and geo-fencing data from the IoT sensors, we can provide additional contextual information on the status of each lot in the production process, flag errors and delays, and inform decision making. We can also provide realistic simulation of the flows for the next day and present analytics on efficiency and KPIs and support scheduling. This is a collaborative project with the Robust and Secure Distributed Computing (RiSING) research unit of FBK CREATE-NET in Trentino, IoT startup ThinkINside, and large consulting, integration and digital services company Reply, and is aimed towards the development of a commercial product. I will describe the project in more detail and present our efforts to turn WorkflowFM from a research prototype to a robust solution at a much higher technology readiness level.
