Abstract

1942 adverts seeking construction workers to build a highway through northern Canada warned of the "most extreme conditions imaginable", including heat, cold, and bugs "not only annoying but causing bodily harm".

The speaker, a hardy pioneer eking out a living in the Quebec wilderness, will present a survival guide to the great white north. A variety of threats will be discussed, ranging from frostbite to skunks and traffic jams, along with relevant "do"s and "don't"s.
