Abstract

This lunch talk is motivated by observations of my daughter's development over the past year. She's almost two and I've begun to notice her uneasiness in certain situations that she was previously comfortable in; e.g. watching a Halloween-themed "Baby Shark" nursery video on my tablet. This got me thinking about my own childhood fears and their origins.

In this talk, I'll share some of my earliest fears as a child and my unscientific guide to fighting them. I'd also want to know from you how far back to your earliest fears/phobias you can remember, their origins and how you got over them, if you ever did.

And for any who are experts on this subject, I'll be happy to learn about the psychology of fear.

PS: You do not have to share any fears/phobias if you are uncomfortable doing so. However, I’ll be interested to hear what techniques you might have used to fight some of my earliest fears.
