'What is the European Union?'

Abstract:

As the Brexit finally seems to take place on January 31st, and the most googled question the day after the referendum was "What is the European Union?" I thought this would be a great moment to give a talk about the European Union. This talk is not a pro-EU, anti-Brexit talk but rather a neutral assessment of how this complex system works. The main questions I will tackle are: What are the different institutions of the EU and how do they work together? What is the process of law making in the EU? Why is the process so complicated and seems so obscure? What are the key achievements and failures of the EU?
