Title

Tor: From the Dark Web to the Future of Privacy

Abstract

This talk from Ben Collier draws on a decade of research on the Tor Project and Privacy Enhancing Technologies to discuss how the past of the digital rights movement and the infrastructures it has given the world will shape the future of the Internet. The talk will cover where Tor came from, the controversial design decisions which led to its success as a widely-used privacy technology, how it established itself in a time of deep conflict over the politics of PETs, and what it means now in the context of ongoing crackdowns on digital privacy across the world.
