Professor Aggelos Kiayias, Director of the Blockchain Technology Laboratory, took part in Reimagining Finance for the Intelligent Age, hosted by Barclays at its Glasgow Campus on 1 October 2026 as part of the FinTech Scotland Festival. Aggelos joined the “Battle of the Golden Ledger” fireside chat, which explored the future architecture of digital finance and the question of what could become the trusted source of record and value exchange in an increasingly digital financial system. The discussion considered the roles of central banks, commercial banks, market infrastructures and decentralised networks, alongside issues including trust, interoperability, resilience and competition.The session formed part of the event’s wider programme examining how AI and frontier technologies are reshaping financial services, bringing together representatives from banking, technology, academia and regulation.More information about the event is available on the FinTech Scotland website.
