Current Informatics Programme Accreditation and Certification

BCS Accreditation

BCS awards accreditation to a variety of levels. For our degrees, the relevant levels are Chartered IT Professional (CITP) and Chartered Engineer (CEng). Full details and explanations of these can be found through the relevant BCS pages (external).

The most recent BCS accreditation visit took place in October 2021 where the BEng Computer Science was successfully presented for accreditation from 2021 - 2026.

To be eligible to graduate with BEng Computer Science a maximum of 30 credits may be compensated (awarded on aggregate) in total across years 3 and 4.  The minimum mark where compensation is applied is 10% below the nominal course pass mark; students must therefore score at least 30% for a course with a pass mark of 40% in order to be eligible for compensation.  The Professional Issues INFR10022, Informatics Large Practical INFR09051 and System Design Project INFR09032 courses must be passed without compensation for accreditation.

BEng Hons Computer Science Degree Programme Table (DPT)

Where a student fails to achieve the BCS accreditation requirements they will be transferred onto the BSc Computer Science programme for award.  Students on any unaccredited degrees, may seek individual accreditation directly through the BCS.

National Cyber Security Centre Certification

Full Certification is granted to the following course:

Course: Cyber Security, Privacy and Trust MSc
Module details:

The following 100 credit ‘minimal pathways’ are included within the scope of certification.  From 2025/26 IPP (10 credits) and IRR (10 credits) are replaced on the full time programme with IPP20 (20 credits).

Should any of these be chosen, then it is immaterial what other modules are chosen.
