8th consecutive win for EUFS at Silverstone

[28/05/2025] Edinburgh University Formula Student (EUFS) has once again triumphed at the Formula Student UK (FSUK) competition at Silverstone, winning the FS-AI Overall award for the eighth consecutive year. This achievement highlights the continued excellence of the team, including significant contributions from students in the School of Informatics.

FS-AI challenges university teams to build and develop the driving systems to run a fully autonomous vehicle. Formula Student (FS) is Europe's most established educational engineering competition.

Continuing their winning streak, EUFS has won FS-AI Engineering Design, FS-AI Track Drive, FS-AI Skid Pad, FS-AI Sprint, FS-AI Endurance, Babcock Overall FS-AI Dynamic Events and placed joint second with both ADS and DDT vehicles in FS-AI Simulation Development. This has led the team to an astonishing 8th overall win in the FS-AI category.

It is incredible to have been able to lead the team to an eighth consecutive victory in the FS-AI category. This, paired with passing key elements of scrutineering with our ADS vehicle shows the true dedication of the team. Despite difficult conditions, we have defended our title and proved we are at the forefront of innovation in autonomous driving.

This year EUFS have further pushed the boundaries of autonomous driving by passing not only safety and technical scrutineering this year but also chassis and accumulator scrutineering for the first time. The team will continue their trailblazing streak by working towards competing in all dynamic AI events in future with their ADS vehicle.

Academic integration through experiential learning

The School of informatics offers Informatics Experiential Learning courses at Level 8 and 10, which can be taken by students at EUFS to replace a 20 credit course. The level 8 course allows members of the EUFS AI Software team to document, and reflect critically on their contribution to a substantial project in their work with EUFS over a full year, and the level 10 course allows senior members of the EUFS AI Software team to document and reflect critically on their leadership/mentorship while overseeing a substantial project in EUFS over at least one year. This allows students to showcase the practical applications of academic skills in real-world scenarios.

History of EUFS

EUFS was founded in 2014 with only 10 members and has since grown to more than 140 whilst becoming the standard for driverless teams. The team won the inaugural DDT class in 2018 (now renamed to FS-AI) and has continued to every year since.

The Edinburgh University Formula Student team are also working towards being the first UK society to build their own fully autonomous racing car, which shows their commitment towards always improving themselves. Congratulations to everyone involved at EUFS who has worked hard to achieve this.
