[2019] SIGINT Cyber Security Society members Gwion, Wiktor and Ally won the national competition for the second year in a row, beating teams from all over the country. The final of Deloitte’s annual Capture the Flag competition took place in London at the beginning of December, with eight teams competing from universities across the UK. SIGINT Team One won the competition overall, having come third in the qualifying round out of around 40 teams. In addition to a cash prize of £3,000, each team member was awarded a coveted limited-edition Deloitte CTF challenge coin. Image Deloitte’s competition puts a variety of skills to the test such as penetration testing, forensics, malware and intrusion analysis, giving students the chance to develop and demonstrate their cyber-skills in front of experts from Deloitte. In this way, the event is an amazing opportunity to gain Industry connections and build a reputation in cyber security: Deloitte is a big company, improving the image of Edinburgh for these companies is great for both us and the university in creating links with the industry. Ally, member of SIGINT first team Our winning SIGINT team found the event challenging and exciting in equal measure, with the many multifarious tasks giving them an incredible learning opportunity and opening their eyes to future areas of interest within cyber security. Deloitte's decision to include malware and incident response-related challenges made the event particularly interesting.
