Dr Adams’ award recognises his services to innovation and entrepreneurship.

The BSc Computer Science and Mathematics (1971) and PhD Computer Science graduate (1977) returned to the University in 2006 and became responsible for connecting research in School of Informatics to the commercial world.

In 2008, he became Director of Informatics Ventures, heading the dynamic team which connects, educates and supports Scotland’s technology entrepreneurs.

He retired from the School on 26 August 2016.

Colin has achieved a huge amount through leadership and teamwork. He has transformed the informatics community in Edinburgh, and he’s done it gently, with a combination of common sense and confidence. He helped us realise how much we already had to be proud of. And then he helped create a whole lot more things for the city, and for Scotland, to be even prouder of.
