Scholarships for research students

A wide variety of scholarships are available. Many of these are full scholarships, paying tuition fees, additional programme costs, and a stipend to cover living expenses.

The rest are partial scholarships, for example paying only tuition fees, or waiving additional programme costs, or making a contribution towards living expenses.

 

Most of our scholarship funding is not earmarked for specific areas. An exception is the following areas, for which grant-funded scholarships are available:

Applications are invited from exceptional students of all nationalities who want to pursue a full-time PhD in the School of Informatics for entry in the academic year 2024/25.

The University of Edinburgh offers PhD scholarships for students starting their PhD research in the academic session 2024/25.

The School of Informatics and DeepMind have formed a partnership supporting students in their PhD studies in the field of Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence (AI).

UKRI/ESPRC CDT Scholarships Centre for Doctoral Training studentships

The School of Informatics hosts a number of Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT), funded by the UKRI Research Councils. These programmes strongly promote interdisciplinary study and collaboration with other universities and industrial partners, combining PhD study with taught courses, industrial placements and other training opportunities.
